Eight Named to National Non-USCAA Sport All-Academic Team

BROOKLYN, NY – Eight St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) student-athletes were recently named to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association 2011-2012 National Non-USCAA Sport Winter All-Academic Team. 

In order to qualify for the National All-Academic Team, student-athletes must be a sophomore or higher and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5. To date this season, 16 Bears and Lady Bears have received National All-Academic honors.

Boasting the highest cumulative team GPA, seven hailed from the women's swimming team out of 12 Lady Bears eligible for the award.  Seniors Elizabeth Fiorella (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney), Kristen McMaster (Brooklyn, NY/Fontbonne Hall), Alison Nunziata (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) all earned their third straight selection. Fellow seniors Catherine Muldoon (Brooklyn, NY/Fontbonne Hall) and Abigail Verbil (Queens, NY/Christ the King) and junior Laura Sonnylal (Richmond Hill, NY/Archbishop Molloy) received their second nod.  Sophomore Demi Herman (Rockaway, NY/Stella Maris) rounded out the team with her first selection. 

Representing the men's volleyball team, senior Maciej Sadowski (Brooklyn, NY/Cathedral Prep) earned his third selection.
