Women's Swimming Opens Season at SLC Sprint Carnival

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's swimming team opened their sixth varsity season posting a fifth place finish at the Sarah Lawrence College Sprint Carnival at the Campbell Sports Center on Saturday afternoon.

Host Sarah Lawrence College won the six-team meet by a 45-point margin over St. Joseph's College (Long Island). Brooklyn College and The College of New Rochelle finished in third and fourth, followed by the Lady Bears and Fairleigh Dickinson at Florham to compete the scoring.

Sophomore Morgan Summers (Bellerose, N.Y./St. Mary's) turned in highest individual placing of the afternoon taking second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:11.36) and got the Lady Bears 200-yard medley relay team off to an early lead with the second-fastest split of the opening event. The relay squad made up of Jillian O'Hara (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall), Tina Wong (Brooklyn, N.Y./ HS of Telecommunications Art and Technology) and Rebecca Sacerio (Brooklyn, N.Y./Lincoln) went on to finish in fourth overall.

The relay of O'Hara, Jaclyn Montana (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bay Ridge Prep), Sacerio and Summers also assembled another strong showing in the 200-yard freestyle relay, finishing in third overall, with Summers also turning in the fastest 50-yard split for clocking in at 27.01.

Jaclyn Kennedy (Breezy Point, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall) (37.61) and Sacerio (38.12) finished in fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 50-yard backstroke.

O'Hara also turned in a strong effort individually in her rookie debut placing fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:31.79) and sixth in the 200-yard individual medley (2:53.62) and 200-yard butterfly (1:20.00).

St. Joseph's returns to the pool on Friday, November 8th, heading to the Bronx to face Lehman College starting at 6 p.m.
