Women's Swimming Downed by Brooklyn College in Home Opener

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's swimming team came up short in their home opener against borough rivals Brooklyn College falling 59-36 on Friday night at Brooklyn Technical High School.

The Lady Bears (1-5) took an early lead winning the opening 200-yard medley relay (2:19.10) with the quartet of Morgan Summers (Bellerose, N.Y./St. Mary's), Tina Wong (Brooklyn, N.Y./ HS of Telecommunications Art and Technology), Jaclyn Montana (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bay Ridge Prep) and Rebecca Sacerio (Brooklyn, N.Y./Lincoln) taking a four-second victory.

But the Lady Bears' lead would be short-lived as Brooklyn (4-5) won the next two events and captured eight of the 11 events for the win.

Junior Erin Collins (Breezy Point, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall) and Tina Wong (Brooklyn, N.Y./HS of Telecommunications Art and Technology) took home the lone individual event wins. Collins edged out Danielle Mollo-Siano of Brooklyn by .25 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle and later added a second-place finish with a career-best 1:11.09 in the 100-yard freestyle. Wong posted a career-best 7:07.20 in the 500-yard freestyle for a 14 second victory.

Montana (100-yard butterfly), Sacerio (200-yard freestyle) and Julia Dineen (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Saviour) (100-yard backstroke) all collected second place finishes for St. Joseph's.

The Lady Bears will continue a three-meet home stand at Brooklyn Technical High School welcoming sister campus St. Joseph's College (L.I.) on Saturday, December 21st at 3 p.m. in the opening event of the annual "East vs. West" Tripleheader.
