Sacerio and O'Hara Sweep HVIAC Weekly Accolades

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – After defeating their sibling rivals, St. Joseph's College (L.I.), for the first time in school history, junior Rebecca Sacerio (Brooklyn, N.Y./Lincoln) and sophomore Jillian O'Hara (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) from the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's swimming team were named the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively.

Sacerio overcame a four-second deficit in the final leg of the 200-yard medley relay swimming a career-best 28.76 50-yard freestyle split, nearly three seconds faster than her previous best, to edge out the Golden Eagles by .53 seconds.

In addition to that relay victory, the junior placed second in the 200-yard individual medley and third in the 100-yard breaststroke to help the Lady Bears secure their first win over their sister campus in six meetings.

O'Hara collected the lone individual event win for the Lady Bears in their 52-43 triumph over the Golden Eagles. The sophomore won the 100-yard breaststroke by five seconds with a time of 1:29.26 to give the Lady Bears the lead for good after St. Joseph's (L.I.) had taken a momentary lead in the meet.

O'Hara came back the very next event and anchored the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team that sealed St. Joseph's victory.

The accolades are the first earned by Sacerio and O'Hara in their careers and are the first earned by a Lady Bear this season.

St. Joseph's (2-5) returns to action on Friday, January 17th taking on HVIAC foe Sarah Lawrence at Brooklyn Technical High School with a start time of 7:30 p.m.
