Trio Earns All-HVIAC Swimming Honors

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Sophomores Morgan Summers (Bellerose, N.Y./St. Mary's) and Jillian O'Hara (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) along with senior Haley Betancourt (New York, N.Y./St. Vincent Ferrer) were named to the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) All-Conference team.

The awards were announced yesterday after the conclusion of the HVIAC Invitational Championships, where the Lady Bears finished in second place for the fifth-straight year.

Summers earns All-Conference Team honors for the second consecutive season after recording six individual wins on the season, including the Lady Bears two gold medals at the HVIAC Invitational. The sophomore picked up a win in the 200-yard individual medley in St. Joseph's win over Cedar Crest with a time of 2:41.07.

Summers repeated as champion in the 100-yard backstroke (1:10.84) and won the 200-yard individual medley (2:39.71) at the HVIAC Invitational yesterday. The sophomore led off her 200-yard freestyle and medley relay squads to third place finishes and has now accumulated a perfect eight medals in eight events at the Invitational in her career.

O'Hara takes home All-Conference honors in her first season as a Lady Bear. The sophomore had an impressive season, setting a school record in the 100-yard butterfly (1:16.77) at Lehman College in only her second collegiate meet. The one-time HVIAC Rookie of the Week stepped up against rivals St. Joseph's (L.I.), recording a victory in the 100-yard breaststroke that helped give St. Joseph's the lead for good over the Golden Eagles.

O'Hara finished with two medals at the HVIAC Invitational, finishing third in the 200-yard individual medley and added a medal in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Betancourt receives conference year-end honors for the first time in her career after providing senior leadership to the Lady Bears squad. The senior split her time competing primarily between the 100-yard breaststroke and the 1000-yard freestyle. Betancourt recorded a second place finish in St. Joseph's win over Cedar Crest on November 23rd in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:34.22. Betancourt came up with a bronze medal in the 1000-yard freestyle at the HVIAC Invitational.

St. Joseph's concludes their season with a matchup at The College of New Rochelle on Wednesday, January 29th at 8 p.m.
