Women's Swimming Places Fourth at SUNY Delhi Fall Invitational

DELHI, N.Y.—Paced by a win in the 200-yard medley relay and second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay, the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's swimming team took fourth out of seven teams at the SUNY Delhi Fall Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Julia Dineen (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Saviour), Erin Collins (Breezy Point, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall), Tina Wong (Brooklyn, N.Y./HS of Telelcommunications Art and Technology) and Brianna Minogue (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) clocked in at 2:21.03 for a three-second victory in the opening event. The quad would later team up again securing second place in the final 200-yard freestyle relay, leading after three legs, but edged out in the final leg. Their strong effort accounted for 58 of the Lady Bears 157 points on the day.

Minogue turned in the strongest individual performance taking third in the 100-yard freestyle (1:06.46) and fourth in the 200-yard freestyle with a career-best 2:30.79.

Wong collected a third-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (1:21.44) and a fourth in the 200-yard individual medley (2:52.84).

Collins secured a pair of sixth-place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke (1:28.50) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:36.68).

The Lady Bears took sixth and seventh in the 500-yard freestyle with Suzanne Norbo (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall) and Leticia Salazar (Ridgewood, N.Y./Grover Cleveland) both swimming personal bests 9:29.81 and 9:55.16, respectively.

Helping to contribute to the team scoring all swimming personal bests were Dineen in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:39.51), Jennifer Moncino (Ridgewood, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) in the 100-yard backstroke (1:47.91), Shannon Rom (Breezy Point, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) in the 100-yard freestyle (1:20.93) and Jessica Sacco in the 100-yard freestyle (1:22.09) and 200-yard freestyle (3:15.43).

Bard College took an 11-point victory in the women's meet followed by Wells College and SUNY Delhi ahead of the Lady Bears. Herkimer County Community College, Jamestown Community College and Queensborough Community College rounded out the seven-team field.

St. Joseph's will have nearly a month off before facing rivals St. Joseph's College (Long Island) on Saturday, December 20th in a road dual meet starting at 1 p.m.
