Women's Swimming Lowers Two Records En Route To First Win of Season Over New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's swimming team captured four events and set two new program records in earning their first win of the season defeating former HVIAC foe College of New Rochelle splitting a double dual with Skyline Conference rival College of Mount Saint Vincent.

More Records Fall

  • Freshman Shannon Doherty lowered her record in the 50-yard freestyle by .03 with a time of 28.16 for a nearly five-second victory. She just missed her record in the 100-yard freestyle by .04 finishing in collecting second-place points clocking in at 1:03.78.
  • Senior Tina Wong bested classmate's Jillian O'Hara's two-year record in the 100-yard butterfly by .24 taking second place with a time of 1:16.53.
  • The record-breaking swims are the ninth records set this season by the Lady Bears. 

Lady Bears Sweep Relays

  • The quartet of Morgan Summers, Jillian O'Hara, Tina Wong and Shannon Doherty got the Lady Bears off to a quick start winning the 200-yard medley relay in 2:13.96.
  • SJC closed out the meet with a nearly one-minute victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay with Jessica Caiazzo, Julia Dineen, Jillian O'Hara and Morgan Summers combining for a time of 2:06.46. 

Other Notable Swims

  • Jillian O'Hara rounded out four first-place finishes for SJC swimming a personal-best 1:26.02 in the 100-yard breaststroke.
  • Morgan Summers took second place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:10.24.
  • Julia Dineen swam a personal best in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:58.53 for second place.
  • Lauren Rivera collected third-place points in the 200-yard freestyle (3:16.97) and 100-yard butterfly (1:42.63).

Next Up for the Lady Bears

St. Joseph's face CUNYAC foe Hunter College in a non-conference road dual meet on Friday, December 4th at the Hunter College pool starting at 6 p.m.
