Women’s Swimming Wins Three Events in Dual Against SJC Long Island and New Rochelle

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's swimming team won the opening relay and Shannon Doherty (Brooklyn, N.Y./Churchill) and Rebecca Bollmann (Broad Channel, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) claimed individual wins but it was not enough to overcome SJC Long Island and The College of New Rochelle in a non-conference double-dual on Saturday. The Bears fell to sibling rivals Golden Eagles, 121-60, and to the Blue Angels, 104-77.

SJC Highlights

The took an early lead on both opponents with a 10-second victory in the 200-yard medley relay by the quartet of Valerie Rodriguez (Woodhaven, N.Y./New Utrecht), Bollmann, Doherty, and Kathryn Cosenza (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney).

Doherty outtouched Bella Peralta of SJC Long Island in 100-yard butterfly to win in 1:11.13 and took second in her other individual race, the 200-yard freestyle (2:24.76).

Bollmann won the 100-yard breaststroke by four seconds in 1:22.88 in her only solo event and also aided the 400-yard freestyle relay to a second-place finish.

Valerie Rodriguez (Woodhaven, N.Y./New Utrecht) secured second-place points in the 100-yard backstroke with a personal-best 1:16.97. She also swam personal bests in the opening legs of both relays.

Jessica Gnad (Brooklyn, N.Y./Leon M. Goldstein) turned in a strong effort in the 200-yard individual medley to collect third-place points for the Bears with a time of 2:43.41.

The Bears have a week off before traveling to the Garden State to face Kean University on Saturday (Nov. 10) at 1 p.m.
