Women's Swimming Scores First Wins of Season Downing SJC Long Island and Old Westbury

KINGS POINT, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's swimming team turned in season-best times in seven events to secure victories over sibling rivals St. Joseph's (Long Island), 95-83, and Old Westbury, 127-41, in a Skyline Conference triple-dual meet on Wednesday evening. The Bears fell to host United States Merchant Marine Academy, 150-49, to finish 2-1 on the evening.

Bears Top Swims

  • The senior foursome of Jessica Gnad (Brooklyn, N.Y./Leon M. Goldstein), Valerie Rodriguez (Woodhaven, N.Y./New Utrecht), Kathryn Cosenza (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney), Rebecca Bollmann (Broad Channel, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) took second place in 200-yard freestyle relay (2:00.77) to help seal the win over SJC Long Island.
  • Rodriguez earned second place in the 100-yard backstroke (1:17.15) and third place in the 100-yard butterfly (1:17.21)
  • Cosenza posted the fastest 100-yard free (1:06.05) and 50-yard free (29.17) times of the season, accumulating third- and fourth-place points.
  • Gnad recorded a season-best 2:48.46 in the 200-yard individual medley for fourth place. 
  • Eireann Corbett (Broad Channel, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) took third in the 500-yard freestyle (7:22.11) followed closely by sister Meghan Corbett (Broad Channel, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) in 7:38.05.
