Lady Bears Tennis Falls to New Rochelle in Regular Season Finale

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's tennis team suffered a 6-3 setback to the College of New Rochelle in a Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon at the USTA Billy Jean King National Tennis Center.

The Lady Bears (2-7, 1-3 HVWAC) conclude league play finishing in fourth place in the HVWAC standings. The Blue Angels (2-7-1, 2-2 HVWAC) snap a six match losing streak and sit in third place in the league standings with one game remaining.

Junior Kelly McNamee (Glendale, NY/Mary Louis) and freshman Deirdre Lavelle (Brooklyn, NY/Fontbonne Hall) secured the lone wins for the Lady Bears in singles play.  McNamee boosted her singles record to 4-5 capturing a 10-3 victory at No. 2 singles.

Lavelle notched a point for the Lady Bears at No. 5 singles. The rookie would later team up with senior Teresa Mangan (Cleveland, OH/St. Joseph's) to produce an 8-6 victory at No. 3 doubles for the Lady Bears lone win in doubles play.

Seniors Patricia Nealon (Maspeth, NY/St. Francis Prep) and Danielle Marino (Maspeth, NY/Mary Louis) played a hard-fought match at No. 2 doubles, falling by a break 8-6.

The Lady Bears will conclude their 2012 campaign at the HVWAC Tournament on Saturday, October 27th at the USTA Billy Jean King National Tennis Center starting at 10 a.m.
