McNamee Rallies For Singles Win But Women's Tennis Struck By Lehman

BRONX, N.Y. – Senior Kelly McNamee (Glendale, N.Y./Mary Louis) notched the lone point for the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's tennis team during an 8-1 defeat to Lehman College in a non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at the APEX Courts.

The Lady Bears (0-3) drop their third straight, while the Lightning (3-6) has won three of their last four.

In her No. 2 singles match, McNamee rallied from a 6-1 defeat in the opening set and fought back to take the second set by a break, 6-4. McNamee then took over in the tiebreak 3rd set, 10-3 for the win and the first singles victory for the Lady Bears on the young season.

Also turning in a strong effort was sophomore Deirdre Lavelle (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall) who made her first appearance playing up at No. 3 singles, narrowly getting edged out 7-5 in the opening set before falling 6-1 for the straight-set loss.

The Lady Bears will open Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play tomorrow, hosting The College of New Rochelle at 4 p.m. at the US National Tennis Center.
