John Jay Solves Women's Tennis in 9-0 Defeat

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's tennis team was swept by John Jay College, 9-0, in non-conference action on Wednesday evening at the USTA Billy Jean King National Tennis Center.

The Lady Bears (0-5) remain in search of their first win of the season while the Bloodhounds (2-9) snapped a seven-game skid.

Senior Kelly McNamee (Glendale, N.Y./Mary Louis) and sophomore Deirdre Lavelle (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall) nearly earned a win at No. 2 doubles, pushing Natalie Cervantes and Precious Riddick to a tiebreak, ultimately falling 7-3 in the extra session. McNamee and Riddick would also square off at No. 2 singles, producing the closest match of the singles session, with Riddick taking a 10-6 win.

Junior Victoria LoBosco (Glendale, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) returned to the No. 1 singles spot for the Lady Bears, dropping a 10-5 decision.

St. Joseph's returns to the courts on Sunday, October 6 facing Albertus Magnus College in a non-conference road match in New Haven, Conn. Starting at 1 p.m.
