Women's Tennis Secures A Pair of Doubles Wins in Loss to Yeshiva

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) dropped a 7-2 decision to Yeshiva University in non-conference action on Wednesday night at the USTA Billy Jean King National Tennis Center.

The Lady Bears (0-6, 1-1 HVIAC) captured two of the three doubles matches, with Victoria LoBosco (Glendale, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) and Tathiana Pierre (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Ford) teaming up for an 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles and Deirdre Lavelle (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall) and Mary Edward (Glendale, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) grinding out an 8-7 (7-1) triumph in a tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles.

Both matches were the first wins for St. Joseph's in double play and the first collegiate wins for Pierre and Edward. Pierre also turned in a strong effort in her No. 3 singles match, falling 10-6 to Hannah Eichenbaum.

Yeshiva (3-2) was led by Rachel Shapiro who took notched wins at the top doubles and singles flights.

With Friday's scheduled conference match vs. Vaughn rescheduled and Sunday's non-conference match vs. Cedar Crest postponed, the Lady Bears return to action on Monday, October 14 for an HVIAC road matchup against Sarah Lawrence starting at 6 p.m.
