Women's Tennis Concludes Regular Season With Sweep of HVIAC foe Vaughn

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's tennis team captured all nine matches en route to a 9-0 Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) victory over Vaughn College on Sunday afternoon at the US National Tennis Center.

St. Joseph's (2-8, 1-3 HVIAC) picks up their first conference win of the season and has now won two out of their last three matches while Vaughn (0-7, 0-3 HVIAC) remains winless on the season.

Junior Victoria LoBosco (Glendale, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) led the Lady Bears at No. 1 singles defeating 2012 All-Conference selection Estefania Collazos 10-2.

Sophomore Tathiana Pierre (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Ford) and freshman Samantha Rossi (Bayside, N.Y./Mary Louis) pitched shutouts winning 10-0 at No. 2 and No. 3 singles respectively. Pierre earns her second singles win of the week while Rossi takes home the first solo win in her brief collegiate career.  Freshman Mary Edward (Glendale, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) picked up her second consecutive singles win earning a 10-1 win at No. 5 singles while fellow rookie Madeline Moravek (Whitestone, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) recorded her first collegiate singles win with a 10-4 margin of victory. Sophomore Deirdre Lavelle (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall) notched her second singles win of the year at No. 4 singles taking a 10-2 decision.

In doubles play, St. Joseph's was led by the duo of LoBosco and Pierre at No. 1 doubles as they netted an 8-2 victory. Rossi and Lavelle teamed up at No. 2 doubles to win 8-2 and Edward and freshman Kirstie Dominique (Laurelton, N.Y./Mary Louis) completed the sweep with an 8-3 triumph.

The Lady Bears return to the courts Saturday, October 26th as they take part in the HVIAC Tournament at the USTA National Tennis Center. First serve is slated for 10 a.m.
