FLUSHING, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's tennis team concluded their 2013 campaign with a third-place finish at the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships held on Saturday afternoon at the USTA Billy Jean King National Tennis Center.

The Lady Bears were led by senior Kelly McNamee (Glendale, N.Y./Mary Louis) and freshman Samantha Rossi (Bayside, N.Y./Mary Louis) who collected wins in their respective singles matches before teaming up for another victory in doubles play.

McNamee defeated Violet Lisi of New Rochelle, 8-2, in the No. 3 singles quarterfinals before falling by the same margin to Autumn Atkinson of Sarah Lawrence in the semis. Rossi cruised past Frenchie Rodriguez of Vaughn at love, 8-0, in the No. 4 quarters before succumbing to the eventual champion Sarah Conant, 8-0, in the next round. The duo teamed for an 8-2 triumph over New Rochelle in the No. 2 doubles tournament, later falling to the eventual flight champions, Whitney Mills and Gabrielle Guerra of Pratt.

In ceremonies after the tournament, McNamee was recognized to the All-Conference team for the second time in her career.

Also securing points towards the Lady Bears' third-place finish was Victoria LoBosco (Glendale, N.Y./Mary Louis) with an 8-1 victory over All-Conference selection Estefania Collazos of Vaughn in the No. 2 singles quarters and sophomore Deirdre Lavelle (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall) who posted an 8-1 win over Lacy Rose Dickinson of Vaughn in the No. 5 singles tourney.

T.C. Huen wraps up his first year at the helm of the Lady Bears with a 2-8 record, but winners of two out of their last three. The third place tournament finish was also the Lady Bears highest since 2009, when only four teams participated.
