2014 Women's Tennis Scheduled Released; Informational Meeting This Friday

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) women's tennis team embarks on a 12-game schedule for the 2014 season, highlighted by eight matches at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, home of the US Open.

Coming off a 2013 campaign that ended with a third-place finish at the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) championships, second-year head coach TC Huen has high hopes for this upcoming season.

The Lady Bears kick off the season with a match on Sept. 19 at the National Tennis Center against John Jay from the CUNYAC.  They then take on Sarah Lawrence, who finished second in last year's HVIAC Championships and have now moved to the Skyline Conference, for their first home match on Sept. 27. The following day, the team goes up to New Haven, Conn. for the first of two matches of the season against Albertus Magnus. They wrap up the month on Sept. 30, with a home match against Lehman.

October proves to be a crucial month for the Lady Bears, which has all four of their HVIAC contests and some challenging non-conference matchups. They kick off the month on the road facing a strong non-conference foe Kean University from the New Jersey Athletic Conference on Oct. 3 in Union, N.J. The Lady Bears then have back-to-back HVIAC road matches against Vaughn College and New Rochelle on Oct. 5 and Oct. 10, respectively.

The team returns for a three-game home stand, taking on Albertus Magnus for the second time on Oct. 12, York (N.Y.) of the CUNYAC on Oct. 14, and Oct. 16 against new HVIAC member Berkeley.

Following that stretch, the Lady Bears take on the three-time defending HVIAC champions Pratt on Oct. 19. The final match in preparation for the HVIAC Tournament facing off against Yeshiva on Oct. 20 in Edgewater, N.J.

The Lady Bears finish off the 2014 season at the HVIAC Tournament held at the National Tennis Center on Oct. 25.

The women's tennis team is seeking additional players for the upcoming fall season. All skill and experience levels are welcome and encouraged to join. There will be an informational meeting for all interested on Friday, September 5 at 12:30 p.m. in the Tuohy Lounge or contact Coach Huen at tchuen@sjcbears.com or (732) 666-2497 for more information.
