Women's Tennis Swept by John Jay in Season Opener

FLUSHING, N.Y.—The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's tennis team was swept by John Jay College, 9-0, in their 2014 opener at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center on Friday evening.

Senior Victoria LoBosco (Glendale, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) nearly forced a third set in the Lady Bears (0-1) closest match of the night, falling in a close second-set tiebreaker, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) at No. 2 singles.

Sophomore Mary Edward (Glendale, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) had a strong effort at No. 3 singles in a 6-4, 6-2 defeat and junior Shannon Fahy (Breezy Point, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) dropped a 6-3, 6-1 decision at No. 5 singles in her first collegiate match.

John Jay improved to 3-3 on the season with the victory.

The Lady Bears have over a week off before returning to the courts on Saturday, September 27 to host former Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and future Skyline Conference foe Sarah Lawrence College. First serve is at 3:30 p.m. at the National Tennis Center.
