Fahy Notches Singles Win as Women's Tennis Falls to Sarah Lawrence

FLUSHING, N.Y.—Rookie junior Shannon Fahy (Breezy Point, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) picked up her first collegiate win, but the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's tennis team dropped an 8-1 non-conference decision to Sarah Lawrence College on Saturday afternoon at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

Fahy cruised past Arianna Cooper at No. 6 singles, 10-3, to secure the lone point for St. Joseph's (0-2).

Junior Tathiana Pierre (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Ford) had a strong showing at the top of the Lady Bears lineup, edged out by Autumn Atkinson at No. 1 singles in a marathon match, 10-8. Pierre later teamed up with senior Victoria LoBosco (Glendale, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) at No. 1 doubles and held three match points, but couldn't convert, eventually succumbing 9-7 to Atkinson and partner Juliet Slade.

The Lady Bears remain winless in the all-time series against the Gryphons (4-4), former Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and future Skyline Conference rivals next season.

St. Joseph's has a quick turnaround, heading to New Haven, Conn. to face Albertus Magnus College tomorrow at 1 p.m.
