Towey and Baptiste Notch Wins as Women's Tennis Drops Decision to Albertus Magnus

NEW HAVEN, Conn.—Rookies Lauren Towey (Belle Harbor, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) and Princess Baptiste (Atlanta, Ga./Benjamin Banneker) each collected their first collegiate singles victories, but the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 non-conference road decision to Albertus College Magnus on Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Bears (0-3) remained winless on the season while the Falcons (2-3) won their second straight.

Towey recorded a 10-5 victory at No. 5 singles over Renata Moore while Baptiste was victorious 10-4 at No. 6 singles over Shamain McAllister.

Deirdre Lavelle (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall) was edged out in her No. 4 singles match, 7-6 (7-5), 7-5, but teamed up with Madeline Moravek (Whitestone, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) to secure the Lady Bears lone win in doubles at the No. 2 flight, 8-6.

St. Joseph's returns to the courts hosting Lehman College on Tuesday, September 30 at 7 p.m. at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
