Pierre Takes Tops Singles Match as Women's Tennis Falls To Kean

UNION, N.J.—Junior Tathiana Pierre (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Ford) secured the lone point for the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's tennis team in a 8-1 defeat at Kean University on Friday evening.

Pierre was triumphant at the top of the Lady Bears (0-5) lineup, earning a hard-fought straight-set victory, taking the first set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-4), before closing out the second set, 6-3. The win was her first of the season and the first in her career playing at No. 1 singles.

Victoria LoBosco (Glendale, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) was edged out at No. 2 singles by Brianna Martin. The senior took the opening set in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-3), dropped the second set, 6-3, and fell in a super tiebreaker, 10-7.

The tandem of Pierre and LoBosco teamed up at No. 1 doubles and dropped an 8-4 decision to Erin Hendricks and Brianna Martin as the Lady Bears were held scoreless in the other two doubles matches, falling behind 3-0 after doubles play completed.

In the first meeting of the two schools, the Cougars improved to 5-3 and have won four of their last five.

St. Joseph's returns to action opening Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Sunday, October 5th against Vaughn College at the USTA National Tennis Center starting at 3 p.m.
