Defending Champion Pratt Too Much for Women's Tennis in HVIAC Finale

BROOKLYN, N.Y.—Junior Tathiana Pierre (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Ford) suffered her first loss in Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play as the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's team was swept by Clinton Hill rivals Pratt Institute, 9-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Pratt ARC.

The Lady Bears (3-7, 2-2 HVIAC) wrapped up HVIAC regular season in third place, while three-time defending champion Pratt (7-2, 4-0 HVIAC), locked up their fourth straight regular season title.

Pierre saw her winning streak snapped just short of the double-digit mark, falling 8-2 at No. 1 doubles with Victoria LoBosco (Glendale, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy), while the hosts took the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches, 8-1 and 8-0, respectively.

Pierre faced a tough test in singles play against the defending HVIAC singles champion and saw her five-match singles win streak halted with a 10-2 defeat. LoBosco dropped a 10-3 decision in the No. 3 flight in the closest match of the singles session. Edward suffered a 10-2 setback at No. 4 singles.

The Lady Bears will have one final non-conference tuneup before the season-ending HVIAC Tournament against future Skyline Conference foes Yeshiva University on Monday, October 20th at 7 p.m. at the Queens College Tennis Center.
