Women's Tennis Swept by Purchase in Opener

PURCHASE, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision on the road to Purchase College in their Skyline Conference and season opener on Sunday afternoon.

How it Happened

  • The Panthers took all a 3-0 lead after the opening doubles matches, with Princess Baptiste and Mary Edward teaming up at No. 2 doubles falling 8-4 in the closest match for the Lady Bears.
  • Tathiana Pierre had a hard-fought singles match at No. 1 singles, dropping a 7-5, 6-3 decision to Emma Yavel and Edward took seven games off Catherine Pasquale in a 6-3, 6-4 loss No. 3 singles.

It was the first meeting between the two squads since a 9-0 decision in Purchase College's favor in September 2009.

The Lady Bears will host former Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rivals Vaughn College on Tuesday, September 22nd at 5 p.m. at the York College tennis courts.
