Women's Tennis Sweeps Vaughn For First Win of Season

JAMAICA, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's tennis team secured their first victory of the season with a 5-0 triumph over former HVIAC rivals Vaughn College on Tuesday night at the York College Tennis Courts.

How It Happened

  • The Lady Bears took a 3-0 lead after opening doubles play with Tathiata Pierre and Denise Trerotola cruising to an 8-1 victory at the No. 1 position.
  • Mary Edward and Princess Baptiste won 8-4 in the No. 2 spot and Brianna Vurckio and Kathryn Brucas triumphed at No. 3 doubles, 8-3, for their first career victories.
  • Rookie Katie Wenzler rolled to a 10-2 victory at No. 6 singles and Trerotola rolled to an 8-2 victory at the top of the lineup, both securing their first collegiate singles victories.
  • With the Lady Bears ahead in the remaining four singles matches, including Brucas ahead 7-1 and one game from victory at the No. 5 position, play was concluded due to darkness.
