Drossman Elevated to Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) Director of Athletics and Recreation James Lally has announced the appointment of Daniel Drossman as head men's and women's tennis coach effective immediately.

"We are very excited that Coach Drossman will be joining us for the upcoming 2016-17 season," commented Lally. "Both our women's and men's teams are in good hands with Dan at the helm. With the women's season right around the corner, we are anxious to get to work on what will prove to be an exciting year for Bears tennis."

Drossman joined the Bears last spring as assistant men's tennis coach for the team's first season in the Skyline Conference. The Chapel Hill, N.C. native possesses over 20 years of tennis coaching experience and is a tennis pro at the Prospect Park Tennis Club in Brooklyn, N.Y. where he teaches all ages and abilities.

"I'm very honored and thankful for James and the rest of the athletic department that they have put their trust in me to help build this program into what I know we can become," remarked Drossman. "I've been a part of this program for a year now and believe that I know what it needs for St. Joseph's tennis to be a force in the Skyline Conference."

He played collegiately at Guilford College where he competed at the top singles position and in his junior year was ranked No. 33 in the nation in singles. Drossman still has his name etched in the Quakers record book ranked 2nd in career overall wins and 3rd in career singles wins. Playing from 1996-99, he amassed 100 victories, compiling a career 57-30 record at singles and a 43-34 record in doubles. He was ranked as high as ninth in the state of North Carolina as a junior tennis player.

Drossman holds a Masters in Fine Arts from The School of Visual Arts and is pursuing a Masters in Art Education from The City College of New York.

The women's tennis team will open a 13-match slate in 2016 and their second season in the Skyline Conference on Tuesday, September 6th at Rutgers University-Newark. Any women still interested in the team can contact Coach Drossman at ddrossman@sjcny.edu.
