Velez Valencia Grinds Out First Win, Brucas Collects Second as Women’s Tennis Battles Hunter
FLUSHING, N.Y. — Freshman Valentina Velez Valencia (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) and senior Kathryn Brucas (Richmond Hill, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) both collected straight-set victories, but the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's tennis team dropped a 7-2 non-conference decision to Hunter College on Sunday afternoon.

- Valentina Velez Valencia edged out Angelica Rozenfeld at No. 3 singles in straight sets, winning both in tiebreakers, 7-6 (5), 7-5 (6) to earn her first collegiate singles victory.
- Riding her first collegiate singles win two matches ago, Kathryn Brucas won her second at No. 6 singles, defeating Tabitha Doris 6-1, 6-4.
- Sophomore Denise Trerotola and junior Katie Wenzler both won their opening sets at No. 1 and No. 4 singles, respectively, but couldn't hold off their Hawk foe and both fell in a third-set super tiebreaker.
