Women’s Tennis Honors Four Seniors Squaring Off With John Jay

FLUSHING, N.Y. — Freshman Daniella Alva (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) extended her streak to three matches winning in both singles and doubles, but the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to John Jay College in a non-conference matchup on Friday afternoon.

  • Katie Wenzler also collected a point in singles scoring a 6-4, 6-2 triumph in the No. 6 position over Rachel Clemons.
  • Valentina Velez rallied after dropping her opening set at No. 4 singles and took the second set 6-2, but fell short in her comeback bid, dropping the third-set super-tiebreaker 10-6.
  • In ceremonies post game, the team honored their four seniors Mary Edward, Brianna Vurckio, Kathryn Brucas and Katie Wenzler.
