First-Place Yeshiva Sweeps Women’s Tennis in Season Opener
FLUSHING, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's tennis team took the court for the first time under new head coach Eduardo Gil on Sunday against Yeshiva University but the first-place Maccabees were too much for the Bears as swept the match, 9-0, and remained undefeated in Skyline Conference play.

SJC Highlights
- In doubles, junior Denise Trerotola (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Saviour) and sophomore Valentina Velez (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) teamed up in the No. 1 position and avoided a shutout, losing 8-1. Sophomore Daniella Alva (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) and senior Kathryn Brucas (Richmond Hill, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) fell by the same margin, 8-1, at No. 2 doubles.
- As play moved to singles, Trerotola led the lineup at No. 1 and was the only Bear to take a game off her opponent in a 6-1, 6-1 defeat.
The Bear Facts
- Yeshiva has won all five of the program's all-time meetings, dating back to 2013. The Maccabees clinched a spot in the Skyline Championships with the victory.
