Estes Garners Skyline Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week Honors

NEW YORK — Providing the match-clinching team point in Saturday's win over Sarah Lawrence, junior Katie Estes (Richmond, Vt./Mt. Mansfield Union) was named Skyline Conference women's tennis Rookie of the Week for games played October 7-13 announced by the league office yesterday.

Estes rallied after dropping the opening set of her No. 3 singles match to force a third set. With the result of her match deciding the overall team match, the first-year collegiate student-athlete erased a match point and won the final three points of the super-tiebreaker to close out a 1-6, 7-5, 1-0 (12-10) win that sealed a 5-4 victory for the Bears.

She also teamed up with sophomore Ashleigh Hartwig (Santee, Calif./West Hills) for an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles. Hartwig was also named to the weekly honor roll taking a straight-set 6-2, 6-3 win in the lead singles match.

The Bears (3-6, 1-3) close out their home slate at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center with the first of two matches in as many days hosting SJC Long Island in a Senior Night match tonight at 7 p.m.
