Lady Bears Volleyball Opens 2009 Season Defeating Yeshiva in Straight Sets

NEW YORK, NY – The St. Joseph's College Volleyball team began their campaign for their sixth straight Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference title with a 3-0 conference win over Yeshiva University (0-4, 0-2 HVWAC) on Tuesday night at Baruch College.

Despite losing four starters to graduation, the new-look Lady Bears were poised to continue their dominance of the HVWAC taking control of the match from the outset winning all three sets by a score of 25-17, 25-12, 25-14.  Veteran Yliane Ulloa (Queens, NY/Midwood) led St. Joseph's with five kills and four service aces.  Newcomer Kathleen McCarthy also had five kills.  Melissa Simo (Brooklyn, NY/Midwood) dished out nine assists and Victoria Curran (Queens, NY/Mary Louis) had four digs to lead the defense.

St. Joseph's improves to 1-0 and returns to action on Saturday, September 19th, travelling to Baltimore, MD for a tri-match against College of Notre Dame and Chestnut Hill.
