Four Named to Inaugural HVWAC All-Academic Team

NEW YORK, NY – In the inaugural Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) All-Academic Team for the Fall Semester, four Lady Bears have been honored with the award. Kristen Bauman (Crystal Lake, IL/Prairie Ridge), Hannah Darnell (Nashville, TN/Siegel ), Joanna Marciniec (Glendale, NY/Baruch) and Yliane Ulloa (Queens, NY/Midwood) have been rewarded for their efforts in the classroom and in their respective sports.

In order to be chosen All-Academic, student-athletes must be a sophomore or higher and maintain a cumulative 3.5 GPA.

Bauman, a sophomore excelled on the tennis court for the Lady Bears going 3-5 primarily at first singles and 2-7 at first doubles. At the HVWAC Championships, Bauman made it to the doubles semifinals before falling to Pratt.

Darnell, a sophomore, ran cross country for the first time in her St. Joseph's career. She ran in three races including the HVWAC Championships, where she was the fourth scorer for the Lady Bears, completing the course in 29:04.  

Marciniec was another member of the cross country team to earn HVWAC All-Academic. She dropped nearly five minutes off of her personal best 5K time at the Lehman Invitational, lowering her time to 28:50.  Marciniec was also named to the USCAA All-Academic Team for basketball. The HVWAC will recognize basketball student-athletes after the spring semester.

Ulloa, the only senior to receive the award, capped off her career at St. Joseph's with a runner-up finish at the HVWAC Volleyball Championships. Ulloa ranked second on the team in kills (197) and service aces (45) and ranked third on the team in digs (215). She recorded four double-doubles and had a career-high 18 kills and 13 digs vs. New Rochelle. In the final match of her career Ulloa had 13 kills to give her 511 for her career. She was also an AD3I All-Independent Honorable Mention and HVWAC Player of the Week for the week ending October 19th.
