NEW YORK, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 non-conference setback (25-11, 25-22, 25-23) to the City College of New York on Thursday night at the Nat Holman Gymnasium.

St. Joseph's  (11-5, 4-0 HVWAC) drops back-to-back games for the first time this season. CCNY (11-16, 6-2 CUNYAC) wins their second straight and three of their last four.

Senior Kim Matthews (Breezy Point, NY/Bishop Kearney) led the Lady Bears with six kills and 13 digs, both team highs. Freshman libero Anna Carbone (Ozone Park, NY/Mary Louis) chipped in 12 digs. Nicole Rios (Astoria, NY/Mary Louis), Lauren GaNun (Breezy Point, NY/Fontbonne Hall) and Megan Moran (Syosset, NY/St. Dominic's) each contributed four kills to the offense which combined for 24 kills. CCNY was paced by Elie Almiron who recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs, both match highs. Dalliana Toussaint had a match-high 13 points, putting down eight kills with four aces and a block. Aimee Grossman dished out 21 assists

The Lady Bears got off to a slow start allowing the Beavers to jump out to a 11-2 lead and could never close the gap, running away with a 25-11 opening set victory.

St. Joseph's found their rhythm in the second stanza and both teams dueled for the remainder of the match going back-and-forth for 18 ties and nine lead changes and neither team jumping ahead by more than five points.

However, CCNY would edge out St. Joseph's in the late stages of each set, closing out set two with a 5-1 run and outscoring the Lady Bears 3-1 in set three after being tied 22-22.

St. Joseph's has a quick turnaround returning to action on Friday, October 19th, squaring off against the College of New Rochelle (8-11, 3-1 HVWAC) in a key conference matchup.
