Women's Volleyball Salvages Split of DC Trip With Sweep of Washington Adventist

TAKOMA PARK, Md. -- The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's volleyball team fell to Bryn Athyn College, 3-1, but went home on a positive note, sweeping hosts Washington Adventist University, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Bears (7-5) saw their winning streak halted at three games by Bryn Athyn (14-8) who extended their win streak to seven. Washington Adventist fell to 3-14 on the afternoon.

Senior Megan Moran (Syosset, N.Y./St. Dominic's) led the St. Joseph's attack amassing 23 kills on the afternoon while sophomore Lauren GaNun (Breezy Point, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall) added 20 kills and five blocks.

The opening match versus the Lions saw the Lady Bears get on the board early taking the opening stanza 25-23 finishing with ten kills. Bryn Athyn would take over after dropping the first set winning the next three sets to take the match and extend their season-high winning streak.

GaNun led St. Joseph's with her 11 kills and 12 digs to record her fourth double-double of the season while Moran finished with her first double-double of the year slamming down 10 kills and bringing up 14 digs. Sophomore Anna Carbone (Ozone Park, N.Y./Mary Louis) had a team-high 23 digs in a losing effort.

The Lions were led by Kaitlyn Brock who had a match-high 25 kills while contributing 18 digs to the Bryn Athyn cause.

In the second match of the day against the hosts Washington Adventist, the Lady Bears dominated the Shock from the onset of the match taking the opening period 25-11 and would not look back taking the next two sets rather easily to salvage the split.

Moran led the Lady Bears attack putting down a match-high 13 kills while GaNun finished the match with nine kills, seven digs and had an efficient .353 hitting percentage.

Washington Adventist was paced by Rachael Nutter who concluded the match with a team-high five kills.

The Lady Bears return to Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Wednesday, October 9th hosting The College of New Rochelle at Brooklyn Technical High School in a battle of two of the three remaining unbeatens. First serve is slated for 7:30 p.m.
