Women's Volleyball Trumped by King's at Carnesecca Arena

QUEENS, N.Y.—The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's volleyball team fell to visiting King's College (Pa.) in straight sets, 3-0 (25-11, 25-8, 25-19) at Carnesecca Arena at St. John's University.

Junior Lauren GaNun (Breezy Point, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall) put down a match-high eight kills to lead the Lady Bears (2-4), who were unable to snap a two-game skid. Jennifer Moncino (Ridgewood, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) added four kills and led the defense with eight digs, also landing one of the team's three service aces.

The Lady Monarchs (6-2) hit .291 and combined for 36 kills among 12 different players, Emily Heimbecker and Alexis Swagler leading the pack with five kills each.

King's dominated in the first two sets but the Lady Bears threatened in the third, trailing by only two late in the frame, 19-17, before a 6-1 Lady Monarchs run ended any hope of forcing a fourth set on the home court of Division I Big East Conference member St. John's.

St. Joseph's has a day off to regroup before returning to action on Sunday, hosting Washington Adventist University and College of Staten Island in a tri-match, starting at noon at The College of New Rochelle. Live stats and video for all three games will be available on SJCBears.com
