GaNun's 21 Kills Leads Women's Volleyball Past Medgar Evers, 3-1

BROOKLYN, N.Y.—Junior Lauren GaNun (Breezy Point, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall) slammed a match-high 21 kills to lead the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over borough foes Medgar Evers College on Thursday evening.

GaNun recorded her third 20-kill match of the season to help the Lady Bears (4-8) snap a four-game skid and capture their fifth straight win over the Cougars (3-13). GaNun hit .362 for the match and added 12 digs and two aces to record her fourth double-double of the season.

Senior Jennifer Moncino (Ridgewood, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) contributed seven kills and brought up 15 digs. Senior Chanell Joseph (Bronx, N.Y./St. Jean Baptiste) posted 19 digs to lead three Lady Bears with double-digit digs. Junior Anna Carbone (Ozone Park, N.Y./Mary Louis) directed the offense with 26 assists and fell one dig shy of a double-double.

Medgar Evers was led by Kiwelewa Mlimwengu who had 18 kills and Kalifa Roberts who had a 13-kill, 21-dig double-double.

The Lady Bears held on for a narrow opening set victory, 25-23, and cruised to a two-set lead taking the second set, 25-15. The hosts then stormed back in the third set also taking a 25-15 frame and fought through the fourth set and nearly forced a fifth set, pushing the Lady Bears to extra points before falling, 29-27.

St. Joseph's returns to action on Tuesday, October 7th – opening a six-match home stand – resuming Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play against Pratt Institute at 7:30 p.m.
