Women's Volleyball Earns HVIAC Tournament Berth With Sweep of Yeshiva

BROOKLYN, N.Y.—The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's volleyball team won their third straight match and cruised past Yeshiva University in straight sets, 3-0 (25-16, 25-5, 25-12), in their Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season finale.

With the win, the Lady Bears (7-10, 2-3 HVIAC) clinched the fourth-and-final spot in the HVIAC tournament scheduled for Sunday and will face top seed the College of New Rochelle in the semifinal round in a rematch of last year's title game.

Junior Lauren GaNun (Breezy Point, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall) compiled a .536 hitting percentage committing just one attack error while landing 16 kills—more than the visitors combined—for the Lady Bears who trailed just one momentarily in the opening set.

Senior Jennifer Moncino (Ridgewood, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) added five kills and seven digs while junior Anna Carbone (Ozone Park, N.Y./Mary Louis) dished out 15 assists, served four aces and brought up eight digs, all team highs.

Aliza Muller led the Maccabees (0-12, 0-5 HVIAC) with four kills while Marissa Almoslino had 14 digs.

St. Joseph's has a day off before returning to Brooklyn Technical High School on Wednesday, October 22 to celebrate Senior Night, honoring seniors Jennifer Moncino, Chanell Joseph and Shannon Rom. The Lady Bears will host Lehman College in a non-conference match starting at 7:30 p.m.
