Women’s Volleyball Faces ODAC Opposition in Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Freshman Alanna Palomino (Fresh Meadows, N.Y./St. Agnes) compiled her third double-double of the season, but the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's volleyball team saw their two-game win streak snapped, taking a pair of 3-0 losses to Old Dominion Athletic Conference foes Roanoke College and Virginia Wesleyan College on Saturday afternoon.

  • After being limited to six points in the opening set and 12 in the second, the Bears fought in the third set and trimmed a 21-16 deficit to 22-19, with the run highlighted by an Alanna Palomino ace, before Roanoke won three of the final four points to seal the match. Elizabeth Quahliero powered the SJC attack with four kills in the final frame.

How It Happened vs. Virginia Wesleyan

  • The hosts led from wire-to-wire in sets one and three. The Bears took their first leads of the match in the second stanza in a set that saw five ties and two lead changes early, before a 6-0 Marlin run ballooned a four-point lead to 10 at 20-10 and out of Bears reach.
  • Alanna Palomino had a team-best 17 digs and paired it with 10 assists for her third double-double of the season.

For the Bears

  • Freshmen Elizabeth Quahliero and Valentina Urgo totaled nine kills each on the afternoon to lead the SJC offense.
