How It Happened

  • The Bears raced out to early leads in the opening two sets but couldn't hold off the Bulldogs who surged late with a strong service game that combined for 18 aces in the match.
  • A 13-2 run gave the visitors control of the opening set after the Bears led 10-9. Nina DiCioccio (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) served up four straight aces to build a 9-5 lead in the second but Brooklyn drew even at 14-all and again at 15-all before winning five straight points to take a 2-0 set advantage.
  • The Bulldogs controlled the third from the outset jumping ahead 10-3 and maintained their separation from the Bears.
