Morales Nabs Second Skyline Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week Honors

NEW YORK — St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) freshman Cristina Morales (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) had been named Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week for the second time this season after leading the Bears over SUNY College at Old Westbury last Wednesday (Oct. 3) in five sets with her third-career double-double.

Morales totaled a career-high 15 kills against the Panthers as she helped orchestrate an SJC comeback after they fell behind two sets to none. The Bears battled all the way back for the victory as Morales added a team-high 20 digs, two block assists, and an ace.

With the victory, SJC moved to 5-6 overall and 1-1 in Skyline play, placing them in a tie for sixth place in the league standings. Morales currently ranks seventh in the conference with 2.5 kills per set and her 3.36 digs per set are good for eighth in the league. She enters the week leading the Bears in kills with 90 and comes in at second on the squad in digs (121), and third in total blocks (6).

The Bears also swept York (N.Y.) last Monday (Oct. 1) and Morales contributed five error-free kills for a career-high .714 hitting percentage, five digs, and an ace. The Brooklyn native has amassed double-digit digs six times this season and 10+ kills on four occasions.
