Women's Volleyball Earns Skyline Sweep Over Yeshiva

BROOKLYN, N.Y. -- The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's volleyball team (2-2, 1-0) defeated Yeshiva University (0-6, 0-1) in straight sets (25-8, 25-14, 25-15) in their first Skyline Conference match of the season on Thursday night at The Hill Center. The Bears did not trail at any point in the first two frames as they extended their winning streak to two and leveled their record at .500.

How it Happened

The Bears stormed out with a 7-0 run to begin the opening set, highlighted by kills from Rosa Rosas (Brooklyn, N.Y./Edward R. Murrow) and Briana Marrazzo (East Elmhurst, N.Y./St. John's Prep). A 14-2 run later in the stanza put any comeback hopes out of reach for the Maccabees, as SJC cruised to a 25-8 set victory.

SJC once again piled on the offense to begin the second frame, putting together an 8-3 lead, courtesy of two kills by Kaitlyn Intindola (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney). A 5-0 run later in the set gave the navy and grey a 20-11 lead, and back-to-back kills by Cristina Morales (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep) closed out the set, as the home team took the second stanza 25-14.

The Maccabees found their stride in the third stanza, firing off an early 5-0 run, giving the visitors a 6-3 lead. A kill and a service ace by Marazzo leveled the frame at 7-7, and the set became tied once again soon after at nine apiece. A kill by Teuta Hoxha (Kew Gardens, N.Y/Queens Metropolitan) sparked a 9-1 run for St. Joseph's, giving them an 18-10 lead that would put the Brooklyn squad ahead for good, taking the match 25-15 and the three-set sweep.

For the Bears

  • Marrazzo led all players with 13 points off a career-high-tying nine service aces with four kills. She last accomplished her nine aces on October 28, 2018, also against Yeshiva.
  • Morales hit an efficient .556 slamming six kills against one error on nine swings.
  • Intindola handed out 13 assists and served up three aces with two kills.
