Women’s Volleyball Unable to Capitalize on Set One Win at Sarah Lawrence

BRONXVILLE, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, NY (Brooklyn) women's volleyball team took the opening set on the road against Sarah Lawrence College but fell 3-1 (17-25, 25-15, 25-12, 25-13) as they resumed Skyline Conference play on Wednesday evening.

Martina Urgo (Astoria, N.Y./St. John's Prep) led all attackers with nine kills and Kaitlyn Intindola (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) recorded an 11-assist, 14-dig double-double.

How it Happened

St. Joseph's (1-5, 1-1 Skyline) lost the opening eight points of the match before winning nine straight amidst a 15-2 run that put them ahead for good and went on to take a 25-17 frame.

The Gryphons (8-2, 2-0) would gain early leads again in the second and third sets but the Bears were unable to reverse the tides and fell behind 2-1 in sets.

Both teams jockeyed for the fourth set with four ties and two lead changes before the hosts pulled away with seven unanswered.

For the Bears

  • Urgo paired her match-high nine kills with two aces and eight digs.
  • Autumn Poppett (San Diego, Calif./Mission Hills) had five kills and three blocks (one solo).
  • Ayomide Adeoye (Brooklyn, N.Y./Edward R. Murrow) landed three kills with two blocks (one solo).
  • Intindola also had three kills to go with her double-double effort.
