Cross Country Opens Season at York Invitational

BRONX, N.Y.—The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's and women's cross country teams opened their 2014 campaigns at the York College Invitational this morning.

Junior Thomas Rushin paced the Bears to a fourth place team finish out of four scoring teams, covering the 8-kilometer course at Van Cortlandt Park in 34 minutes flat, good for 16th place overall in the field of 51 runners.

Chris Labady, Matthew Smith, Clyde Delacruz and Dickson Tan rounded out the scoring five for the Bears.

In the women's race, a pair of newcomers led the Lady Bears to a seventh place team finish. Rebecca Ramirez and Katie Wenzler finished one-two for the Lady Bears in 29th and 33rd place. Ramirez clocked in at 33:24 for the 6-kilometer course while Wenzler finished in 34:37 in their first collegiate meets.

Lauren Conter, Kristin Ferrigno and Laura Innocente completed the scoring five for the Lady Bears.

Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference rivals Yeshiva University won both men's and women's team competitions.

The squads return to action on Sunday, September 28th at the College of Staten Island Invitational at Clove Lakes Park.
