Cross Country Competes in CCNY Invitational, Splits with Medgar Evers at Dual Meet

BROOKLYN, N.Y.—The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's and women's cross country took part of the CCNY Invitational last Sunday, and then competed in a dual meet against Medgar Evers on Tuesday.

On Sunday, Louis Williams (Albany, N.Y./Norcross) finished 54th out of 154 runners in his first race with the Bears at Van Cortlandt Park. The junior completed the eight-kilometer course in a season-best time of 30:43.8, leading the Bears to a 12th place team finish. Williams earned both the AD3I Cross Country Runner of the Week and HVIAC Rookie of the Week honors with his performance last Sunday.

Thomas Rushin (33:24.2) and Chris Labady also completed the course for the Bears.

In the women's race, freshman Rebecca Ramirez led the Lady Bears to a 15th place finish out of 16 teams. The rookie crossed the line first for the team for the team, running the course in 30:44.5 to take 43rd place out of 144 overall runners. This performance earned her HVIAC Cross Country Runner of the Week accolades.

Katie Wenzler (33:02.5), Lauren Conter (36:28.1), Ilana Heidel (38:40.2) followed her in crossing the finish line. Jamilynn McGowan (42:07.8) and Laura Innocente (42:08.1) rounded out the finishes to take 15th place.

Tuesday saw both the men and women's team face off against Medgar Evers at Prospect Park. The Lady Bears defeated the Cougars, with Ramirez finishing first place, running the two-mile course in 14:17. Wenzler was right behind her, grabbing second place with a time of 14:51. Innocente (16:14) captured fifth place for the Lady Bears.

The men's dual race saw the Cougars topping the Bears on the 3.3-mile course. Labady (23:24) was the top finisher for the Bears, crossing the line in fifth place.

Both the men and women will compete next Sunday at the HVIAC Championship at the Hudson Valley Sportsdome in Milton, N.Y. The women's race starts at 11 AM, and the men start at 12 PM.
