Daniel Caggiano Named Head Cross Country Coach

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance and Student-Athlete Services Alex Winnicker has announced Daniel Caggiano as new head men's and women's cross country coach.

"Daniel has seen tremendous success as both a student-athlete and a coach and we are excited to bring him aboard to help build the program at St. Joseph's," commented Winnicker.

A Staten Island native, Caggiano comes to Brooklyn after serving as the assistant men's and women's cross country and track and field coach at the College of Staten Island since 2014.

Over his two cross country seasons with the Dolphins, Caggiano aided in the development of a men's squad that captured the CUNYAC title in 2014 and 2015 and a women's team that collected runner-up honors in 2014—the highest finish in school history. Additionally, CSI produced a combined 12 CUNYAC All-Stars over Caggiano's tenure. The Dolphins also saw continued success throughout the track season, breaking several school records and realizing their first individual conference champion.

"I would just like to thank the entire Athletic Department for giving me this opportunity," remarked Caggiano on the appointment to his first head coaching position. "I am eager to begin training with this group of talented student-athletes, and work towards taking this program to a competitive team in the conference and regional levels."

As a student-athlete, Caggiano was a three-year captain of the cross country and track and field teams at Manhattanville College, where he received his Bachelor of Arts in 2014 and attended on a presidential scholarship. The two-time USTFCCCA All-Academic American holds two of the top five 5-kilometer times and the ninth-fastest 8-kilometer time in Valiants history and is the school record-holder in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
