Eight Harriers Set Personal Bests at Skyline Cross Country Championships

PURCHASE, N.Y. — Led by senior Rebeca Ramirez (Woodhaven, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) and sophomore Justin Russell (Saline, Mich./Saline) the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's and women's cross country teams took 10th place at the Skyline Conference Championships. 

All five scoring women ran personal 6K bests in the meet while three men also lowered their personal 8K bests.

Women's Highlights

  • Rebeca Ramirez took over a minute from her personal best to lead the Bears for the fifth time this season with a 6K time of 27:05. Her 27th place overall finish is the highest placing by a male or female Bear at the Skyline Championships in three seasons. 
  • Daniella Alva crossed second in 33 minutes even, lowering her time from three weeks ago by three minutes.
  • Tamarre Phajou also set a personal best by over two-and-a-half minutes with a time of 35:48, third for the Bears in 67th place.
  • Maya Bayliss (37:41) bettered her personal best by 42 seconds while Denise Trerotola (42:33) shattered her previous best by seven minutes to round out the scoring five.

Men's Highlights

  • Justin Russell was the top Bear for the fifth time this season finishing in 46th overall in 31:07.
  • Sophomore Daniel Goncalves crossed second for the navy and grey in his first meet of the season in 32:56, good for 62nd place.
  • Dnellio Bennet (40:19) shaved four minutes from his personal best to improve his standing among the team in third and 87th overall.
  • Danny Zhang lowered his best time by over a minute to 42:25 to finish fourth on the team and Robert Berrios (47:36) finished three spots behind him to complete the scoring.
