Rookies Estes and Tracy Lead Cross Country in Queensborough Invitational

BRONX, N.Y. — Leading the way for the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) cross country teams on Sunday morning at the Queensborough Invitational in Van Cortlandt Park were rookie junior Katie Estes (Richmond, Vt./Mt. Mansfield Union) and freshman Christopher Tracy (Glendale, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy).

Estes crossed the finish line at 27:53.4, good enough for 48th place in the 5-kilometer women's race. Seconds behind her was Valentina Velez Valencia (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney), who completed the race in 28:13.3, placing her 51st overall. 

Tracy finished the 8K course in 35:55.7, ranking him 56th overall in the men's 5-mile race. Sophomore George Garyfallos (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian) was second for the Bears and 88th overall in 41.08.6.

Up Next for the Bears

St. Joseph's will return to Van Cortlandt Park on Sunday, September 22, where they will participate in the York College (N.Y.) Invitational. The women's race is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the men's race at 11:00 a.m.
