Seventy-Six Named to 2019 Bears Scholar-Athlete Team
BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The SJC Brooklyn Department of Athletics is proud to announce the members of the 2019 Bears Scholar-Athlete Team recognizing student-athlete who achieved a 3.5 or better grade point average during either the spring or fall semester of the 2019 calendar year. The team was honored at halftime of the men's basketball home game last Thursday vs. Maritime.
"We are proud to see the continued success of our student-athletes in the classroom while balancing the responsibilities to their sports and their commitments across campus and in the community," commented Director of Athletics and Recreation Margaret Alaimo. "Academics is a top priority of the department and we're happy to see our student-athletes remain focused on their education."
Of the 76 scholar-athletes named to the fourth-annual team, 13 recorded perfect 4.0 GPAs in either semester and two—Samantha Wilber of women's basketball and Dejon St. Rose-Cuffy of men's volleyball—maintained perfect GPA's for the entire year.
As a whole, Bears student-athletes scored an average 3.133 GPA for the fall 2019 semester with eight teams averaging a 3.0 or better, six of which were a 3.3 or higher. Women's Swimming (3.483) and Softball (3.473) registered the highest team GPAs for the fall semester.
The athletic department would like to thank all the faculty and staff for supporting the student-athletes in their academic endeavors and congratulates the members of the 2019 Scholar-Athlete Team.
