BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Sophomore Dimitri Sirakis (Hollis, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) was on fire shooting 9-for-16 from the floor (6-for-9 3FG) en route to a career-best 27 points. However, the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's basketball team came up short at The Hill Center versus Yeshiva University on Tuesday night 79-67.
The Basics
- Final Score: Yeshiva 79, St. Joseph's 67
- Records: Yeshiva (3-2, 2-0), St. Joseph's (2-3, 1-1)
- Location: Brooklyn, N.Y. — The Hill Center

Turning Point
- Following an 8-0 Bears' run to bring the game within four, Yeshiva ran off on their own 10-0 spurt to take control, 55-41.
How It Happened
- Kavan Meiner (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan Wagner) scored six points early to give SJC an 8-5 lead with 15:47 left in first half. Subsequently, Yeshiva rattled off a 16-0 run to give them a 21-8 lead with 9:30 to go.
- The Bears allowed nine threes in the first half giving Yeshiva a 41-28 lead going into intermission. Meiner carried the hosts before the break, totaling 10 points and five rebounds, but they trailed 41-28 after 20 minutes.
- A 13-4 St. Joseph's run to start the second half cut the lead 45-41 with 16:30 on the clock behind scores from four different Bears. Skyline scoring-leader Simcha Halpert would then score five quick points to squash the momentum.
- Sirakis sparked another comeback finishing with 16 points in the second half, and he made it a 61-69 game with a long-range bucket (5:30). However, the Bears couldn't catch up to Yeshiva down the stretch and picked up their first loss in league play.
For the Bears
- Sirakis passed out five helpers and nabbed a steal to compliment his game-high 27.
- Meiner finished with 17 on an uber-efficient 8-for-10 shooting night, along with a game-high eight rebounds.
- Senior Alec Willis (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Joseph by the Sea) was the only other Bear in double-figures with 11 (4-9 FG, two steals).
Inside the Box Score
- Yeshiva could not miss from three, shooting a red-hot 53.8% 3FG, as opposed to St. Joseph's 38.9%.
- SJC was aggressive on offense, shooting 15 free-throws over Yeshiva's three.
The Bear Facts
- The Bears have now lost three-straight vs. the Macs losing both matchups last season.
- Sirakis' 27 pad his team-high 18.5 points per game average, as he sat third in the league in scoring entering play.
Next Up for the Bears
- A trip to the College of Mount Saint Vincent for a Skyline battle on Thursday (Nov. 30) at 7 p.m. Live stats available at SJCBears.com.
