Farmingdale Topples Men’s Basketball in Skyline Matchup

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's basketball team (9-15, 7-12 Skyline) fell 90-64 in a Skyline road contest to Farmingdale State College (16-7, 14-4 Skyline) on Saturday afternoon. The Rams held SJC to 30.1 percent shooting in the game cruising to their 14th league victory of the season.

Junior forward Kavan Meiner (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan Wagner) led the way with efficient 4-of-8 shooting for 12 points, four boards, and a block in defeat.

How It Happened
FSC raced out to an 8-0 lead to start the game, but an 8-2 spurt from the Bears finished off by a Dimitri Sirakis (Hollis, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) jumper brought the score to 10-8 after five minutes played. SJC hung around until the Rams began to pull away as a pair of free throws from Joseph Santoro made it 26-15 at 7:27.

The hosts' lead swelled to 18 (39-21) with three minutes left in the half, but St. Joseph's outscored FSC 9-2 to close it out for an 11-point deficit at intermission (41-30). Meiner scored or assisted on seven of the Bears' points on the run to narrow the gap.

Meiner put in the first two buckets of the second to bring the Bears within seven, but eight unanswered points from Farmingdale gave them a 15-point advantage (51-36) at 16:13. The Rams continued to roll as a Chaz Platt triple gave them a 76-49 lead with just over seven minutes to play. The Bears never got back within 20 as Farmingdale rolled to victory behind 15 points from Matthew Graham.
