Etheart Scores 1,000th Point as Men’s Basketball Defeats Mount Saint Vincent

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) senior forward Stephane Etheart (Hollis, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) scored his 1,000th career point as part of a game-high 17-point performance leading the Bears (6-7, 2-2 Skyline) to a 66-55 victory over the College of Mount Saint Vincent at The Hill Center on Thursday night.

Etheart became the first member of the 1,000-point club in program history to do all of his scoring as a member of the Skyline Conference as the Bears won their second-straight game and evened their league record at 2-2.

How It Happened
The Bears maintained a slight advantage for most of the opening minutes and when it shrunk to just one senior captain Dimitri Sirakis (Oakland Gardens, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) dropped in a three to go up 16-12 with 11:47 on the clock. CMSV immediately responded with an 8-0 spurt to go up 20-16 not even two minutes later.

The run extended to 12-0 as the Dolphins held St. Joseph's scoreless for 6:13 until junior wing Frank Reali (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan Wagner) hit from beyond the arc bringing the deficit to 24-19 (5:34 on the clock). Reali's long-ball prompted a 12-3 SJC run to close out the first that gave them a 28-27 edge at the break.

Mount Saint Vincent regained the lead early in the second, but a Sirakis jumper initiated 12 unanswered points that brought the Bears ahead, 45-36, halfway through the period. The lead was later extended to 14 on a dunk from Chris Mikos (Freehold, N.J./Saint John Vianney), and Etheart reached his milestone on the first of two free-throws with 3:36 remaining, as the Bears never let the visitors get back in it pulling away for back-to-back Skyline victories.
