Vidal Scores First Goal But Men’s Soccer Takes First Skyline Loss vs. Farmingdale

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Freshman Antonio Vidal (Woodhaven, N.Y./Christ the King) found the back of the net for the first time in his college career but the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's soccer team was handed a 3-1 loss by 2015 runner-up Farmingdale State College in a Skyline Conference matchup on Tuesday evening.

The Basics

  • Final Score:  Farmingdale State 3, St. Joseph's 1
  • Records: Farmingdale State (3-4, 2-0 Skyline), St. Joseph's (3-4, 2-1 Skyline)
  • Location: Brooklyn, N.Y. – Aviator Field

How It Happened

  • The game was fairly evenly played throughout the first half with the Rams holding only an 8-7 edge in shots and 2-0 edge in corner kicks, but the visitors made the most of their scoring opportunities and finished on three strikes that left Bears goalkeeper Julian Rodriguez defenseless.
  • Trailing 3-0 at the break, the Bears tried to push forward in the second half which opened more Farmingdale scoring opportunities but the defense held the Rams off the scoreboard with Rodriguez making four saves in the period.
  • In the 67th minute, junior Cesar Oviedo made a run up the left side of the box and cut the ball back to freshman Antonio Vidal on the back post who knocked it in near side for his first goal of the season.
  • Vidal's goal gave the Bears a spark and they continued to apply pressure but St. Joseph's was unable to put any more past Rams keeper Jeff Valencia.
